Paul said what I ought to do I do not, but that's okay, I've got grace. This is the wrong thing to say. You must say, I must obey that's why I've got grace. The story of the prodigal son does not do away with the words of Christ in Matthew 7:21 which say that you must do the will of God to be saved. Nothing in the Bible does away with these words of Christ in Matthew 7:21 but the evil preacher is always and constantly trying to do away with the words of Christ in Matthew 7:21, which say that you must do the will of God to be saved. Jesus Christ said to me that the chief of all evils is always trying to do away with the words of Christ in the Bible. He is always trying to do away with obedience to God for salvation. After Jesus said that you must be obedient to God to be saved. To go against Christ and against what He said is a very evil thing to do. The thief on the cross became obedient to God on the cross and that's how he got saved through his obedience to God while dying on the cross, and by Jesus Christ. No one is saved without becoming obedient to God. John 3:16 doesn't do away with Matthew 7:21. You need both verses to be saved. You need to believe and to do the will of God to be saved. You are not righteous in Christ if you live in sin and you are not saved. Even though you claim to be in Christ.
